Alexander Viktorovich Donskoy

Alexander Wiktorowitsch Donskoi ( Russian Алекса́ндр Ви́кторович Донско́й ; born  June 10, 1970 in Arkhangelsk ) is a Russian politician and former mayor of the city of Arkhangelsk.

Alexander Donskoy was born on June 10, 1970 in Arkhangelsk. He attended middle school №51 and then did his military service. Donskoi graduated from the Russian Representation of the Stockholm School of Commerce and then attended the Northern Entrepreneurship Institute ( Северный Институт предпринимательства ). From 1994 to 2006 he was general director of a grocery chain in Arkhangelsk.

Election to mayor

On March 13, 2005, Donskoy was elected mayor of the city of Arkhangelsk. The non-party Donskoy achieved a share of 38.65% of the vote with a low turnout of 39.6% and thus prevailed over nine other candidates, including his main competitor Pyotr Orlow of the United Russia party .

Candidacy for the presidency

In October 2006 he was one of the first Russian politicians to declare his intention to run in the 2008 Russian presidential elections. This put him under great pressure in the period that followed. He was subject to prosecution in late 2006 and was finally arrested in July 2007. Donskoy was then held for some time in custody. Among other things, he was accused of paying his own security and that of his family from the city treasury, exceeding official powers, forging his diploma and doing illegal business.

Donskoy resigned as mayor of Arkhangelsk City on February 29, 2008 following a conviction for his forged diploma.

Private

Alexander Donskoi is married and has a daughter and a son.
