Alexander of Medem
Alexander Friedrich Graf von Medem (born March 5, 1803 in Mitau , † August 24, 1859 in Shanghai ) was a Russian diplomat.
Life
Count Medem studied law at the Georg August University from 1822 and became a member of the Curonia Goettingensis VII in 1823. After completing his studies, he entered the diplomatic service of the Russian Empire . At the beginning of his service he worked for various oriental embassies, including in Istanbul. In 1838 he was appointed consul general in Alexandria. From 1841 to 1845 he was Plenipotentiary Minister of the Russian Empire in Tehran, from 1848 to 1854 in Rio de Janeiro and from 1854 to 1855 in Washington. In 1854 he was appointed go. Advice . Most recently he worked in Shanghai. His parents were Count Christoph Johann Friedrich von Medem (1763-1838) and his wife Countess Louise von der Pahlen (1778-1831). His brothers were the Russian diplomat Paul von Medem and the Courland District Marshal and Plenipotentiary Peter von Medem .
