Peter of Medem

Peter Georg Graf von Medem (* January 18 . Jul / 30th January  1801 greg. In Mitau , † 13 March 1877in Mitau) was a Courland county marshal and state representative.

Life

Peter von Medem studied law from 1818 at the University of Berlin, where he became a member of the Corps Curonia Berlin. From 1819 to 1820 he continued his studies at the University of Heidelberg. There he joined the Corps Curonia Heidelberg. After completing his studies and traveling to Morocco and Egypt, he returned to Courland as owner of the manors Sutten and Groß Blieden. In 1854 he also became the majority owner of the Elley manor.

From 1844 to 1851 von Medem was a director of the Courland Credit Union. From 1851 to 1856 he held the offices of fellow resident district marshal and deputy provincial representative. From 1857 to 1862 he was authorized representative of Courland. He was the Russian Chamberlain and Real Councilor of State and Knight of Honor of the Order of St. John .

His parents were Count Christoph Johann Friedrich von Medem (1763-1838) and his wife Countess Louise von der Pahlen (1778-1831). His brothers were the Russian diplomats Alexander von Medem and Paul von Medem . He married on November 2, 1825 on Gut Sutten in Courland, Julianna von Behr († 1863), heiress of Sutten,
