Alexander von Pappenheim (* 1435 , † 1511 in Grönenbach ) was the founder of the Pappenheim-Grönenbach line.

Life

Alexander von Pappenheim was the son of Heinrich XI. von Pappenheim († 1482) and Anna von Abensberg. Matthäus von Pappenheim described Alexander as "homo agrestis & rudis." Franz Ludwig Baumann also describes Alexander in his book Geschichte des Allgäu as a "friend of the arms trade" and as a "violent man who stubbornly defended his real or supposed rights against everyone." In 1488 Alexander von Pappenheim joined the Swabian Federation . In the same year he moved to Bruges to free King Maximilian I , who was in prison there. As he was recognized as a warrior, Alexander was elected as leader of the contingent of Swabian cities during the liberation. In 1494, Alexander and Wilhelm shared the entire property of their ancestor Ludwig von Rothenstein . Alexander was the founder of the Pappenheim-Grönenbach line. He also knew how to convince at tournaments. In 1484 he received “the third thanks” from Magdalena von Gumppenberg at the tournament of the Bavarian Knights in Ingolstadt . From 1489 he stayed mainly in his homeland, but still carried out public duties. The Swabian estates, counts and gentlemen elected him in 1507 as assessor of the imperial chamber court. The epitaph of Alexander von Pappenheim is located in the collegiate church of St. Philipp and Jakob in Bad Grönenbach, where he was also buried.
