The Alexanderburg is a former hunting facility and a cultural monument in Darmstadt-Kranichstein .

History and description

The Alexanderburg stands in the middle of the forest south of the core aisle and is the last remaining "booze house" in Darmstadt. The classicist building dates from the first half of the 19th century. The Alexanderburg has a polygonal floor plan . The hexagonal building is plastered and has a beaver tail roof.

Varia

At that time the wild boars multiplied strongly and should be shot. During the reign of Landgrave Ludwig VIII. Several "booze houses" with associated gardens ( enclosures ) were built. The wild boars were lured into the garden and shot from the safe “boar house”.

The Alexanderburg was named after the Russian Tsar Alexander II , who hunted here on July 1st, 1840.
