Alexandre-Ferdinand Nguendet (born May 23, 1972 in Bossangoa ) is a politician of the Central African Republic who has headed the country's provisional government since 2013. From January 10 to 23, 2014, after Michel Djotodia's resignation, he was acting President of the Central African Republic for a few days.

Political career

As a member of the Rassemblement Démocratique Centrafricain party , Alexandre-Ferdinand Nguendet was a member of the National Assembly of the Central African Republic , and represented the fifth arrondissement of the capital Bangui . In early 2013, Nguendet founded the Rassemblement pour la République (RPR) as a new political party. Nguendet and his party were the first to recognize the rebel leader Michel Djotodia as the new de facto president after the Séléka came to power and the president François Bozizé was ousted and his escape.

In April 2013 Djotodia attempted to legitimize his role as head of state and founded the National Transitional Council, a provisional parliament consisting of 105 members, which was to form a transitional government and constituent assembly for 18 months. On April 15, 2013, Parliament elected Nguendet as chairman against four other candidates. He received the majority with 58 votes, the runner-up was clearly behind with 28 votes.

When the National Transitional Council began its work in May 2013, Nguendet stated that while it was in existence it would have the normal powers of the legislature, with the exception of a vote of no confidence in the government.

After Djotodia resigned under his government on January 10, 2014 after a meeting of the Central African Economic Community (CEEAC) and under pressure from neighboring countries due to the escalating conflict between the people in the Central African Republic, Nguendet took over the function of provisional ruling head of state until the National Transitional Council found a successor had chosen for Djotodia. On January 20, 2014, Parliament elected Catherine Samba-Panza as President of the Central African Republic.
