Alexandru Borza

Alexandru Borza (born May 21, 1887 in Alba Iulia ; † September 3, 1971 in Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg, Kolozsvár)) was a Transylvanian , Austro-Hungarian , later Romanian botanist and plant researcher. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Borza ".

Life

Borza studied theology and natural history with the help of a grant from the Greek Catholic Church in Budapest and Breslau . First he taught in Blaj and from 1918 taught in Cluj-Napoca at the university.

In 1923 he set up a botanical garden in Cluj-Napoca. In 1935, on his initiative, the first nature park in Romania, the Retezat National Park , was established.

Honors

The Cluj-Napoca Botanical Garden was named after him in 1990.
