Alexei Nikolajewitsch Bachmetew ( Russian Алексей Николаевич Бахметев ; * 1774 ; † September 15, 1841 ) was a Russian general .

Life

According to the custom of the time, he was registered at the age of four on September 10, 1777 in the Preobrazhensky regiment of the life guard. His entry into active service as an ensign took place on January 1, 1790 with the Izmailovks Regiment of the Life Guard. He took part in the war against Sweden and was made a colonel on November 22, 1798 . On May 31, 1808 he was promoted to major general, with the simultaneous appointment to head of a Siberian grenadier regiment. He took part in the Russo-Turkish War from 1806-1812 and distinguished himself in the battles of Obleschti near Braila and during the conquest of Hirsova . At Tatariza he was wounded on his left side and received the Order of St. George 3rd Class on July 25, 1810. At the head of General Rajewski's corps , he took part in the siege of Silistra before Shumla . During the attack on the Ruchuk fortress , he was injured in the legs and left the army. On March 31, 1811 he was appointed commander of the 23rd Infantry Division. At the beginning of the Russian campaign in 1812 he was commander of the 11th Infantry Division of the IV Infantry Corps and was assigned to the 1st Western Army. During the withdrawal of the Russian army, he took part in the Battle of Ostrovno , near Smolensk . In the battle of Borodino (September 7th) his right leg was cut off below the knee, and the young lieutenant Prince Peter Andreevich Vyazemsky saved his life. The injury ended his active military career. On October 31, 1812 he received the rank of lieutenant general . Appointed by the military governor of Kamenetz Podolski on March 27, 1814 and appointed governor of Bessarabia the following year . On December 12, 1823 he was promoted to general of the infantry , five years later he was appointed governor general of Kazan, Simbirsk and Penza .
