Alexei Weniaminowitsch Kostygow ( Russian Алексей Вениаминович Костыгов ; born July 5, 1973 in Yaroslavl , Soviet Union) is a Russian handball player . His body length is 1.90 m.

Kostygow, who plays for GK Kaustik Volgograd (back number 73) and played for the Russian men's national handball team (back number 73), is a handball goalkeeper .

Alexei Kostygow started playing handball at the local sports school in his hometown. After graduating, he joined the first division team Kaustik Volgograd in 1990. There he became Russian champion in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. In 2004 he switched to serial champion Medvedi Chekhov , where he was again Russian champion in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and in 2006 he won the European Cup Winners' Cup .

Alexei Kostygow has played 131 international matches for the Russian men's national handball team (as of December 2009). For a long time he was overshadowed by other Russian goalkeepers such as Andrei Lavrov ; from 2004 he was a regular player in his country. The bronze medal at the 2004 Olympic Games is his only international success. With Russia he also took part in the men's handball world championship in Germany in 2007 and finished sixth.
