Alfons Adam (born August 1, 1944 ) is an Austrian lawyer and politician .

Life

The lawyer Adam was active in the anti-abortion scene for a long time , among other things he is federal chairman of the association “PRO VITA - Movement for the Human Right to Life”. On October 15, 2005 Adam , who comes from the Sankt Pölten-Land district , founded the party Die Christians (DC) and became the party's first federal party leader. In the national elections in Austria in 2008 , he was the leading candidate. In November 2008 he was replaced in this position by Rudolf Gehring .

In early 2009, Adam left the party because of internal quarrels. On January 13, 2010, he founded the Christian Alliance , which was also joined by the former Viennese regional party leader of the Christian Party of Austria (CPÖ), into which Die Christians had renamed themselves in June 2009.

In November 2013 Adam was sentenced to a fine of 5,400 euros for incitement to hatred. He had made inflammatory statements about Buddhism in a mail . Adam appealed against this judgment. In the appeal hearing in May 2015, the Vienna Higher Regional Court overturned the first judgment, but sentenced Adam to a total fine of 2,700 euros for degrading religious teachings, half of which was suspended. However, on January 26, 2016, this judgment was overturned by the Supreme Court due to procedural errors and the criminal case was referred back to the Vienna Higher Regional Court.

Adam is married and has seven children.
