Alfonso II (* 1180 ; † February 2, 1209 in Palermo , Sicily ) from the House of Barcelona was Count of Provence from 1185 to 1209 .

Life

Alfons II was born as Alfons Berengar and carried the title Infante . His parents were King Alfonso II of Aragon and his wife Sancha of Castile . His older brother Peter II was King of Aragon .

He was raised to the rank of fellow Count of Provence by his father in 1185 and ruled together with his uncles Raimund Berengar and Sancho . From 1195 he ruled alone.

Marriage and offspring

Gersende, Countess of Forcalquier

Alfons married in 1193 in Aix-en-Provence Gersende, Countess and heiress of Forcalquier (1180-1218), daughter of Raimund I de Sabran, Sire de Caylar and his wife Gersende, Countess de Forcalquier. Alfons had two children with his wife:

  • Raimund Berengar V. (1205–1245), Count of Provence
  • Gersende († 1263), ∞ Guillaume II. De Moncada, Vicomte de Béarn
