Alfred Grünwald Park

The Alfred-Grünwald-Park has approximately 9,000 sqm second largest park in the 6th Viennese district Mariahilf .

history

The park was created in 1979 by the citizens' initiative Denzelgrund , initiated by Richard Weihs , which campaigned for the establishment of a public park on the vacant property at Linke Wienzeile 24–32. The City of Vienna bought the area in 1981 and opened it to the public in 1982. Until it was officially named after Alfred Grünwald in 1986, the park was looked after by the neighbors, since then the Vienna City Garden Authority has been responsible. In the summer of 2008 a 100 m² water playground was built in the park. Because of its location on a site that used to belong to the Viennese automobile manufacturer Denzel , the park is also popularly known as "Denzelpark".
