Alfred Bochert

Alfred Max Bochert (born June 19, 1887 in Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig ; † January 8, 1975 in Pößneck ) was a German politician ( USPD , KPD , later SED ).

Life and work

Bochert, son of a violin maker , completed an apprenticeship as a tailor after attending primary school, which he completed with a journeyman's examination. He passed the master's examination in tailoring and had been working as an independent master tailor since 1911. From 1914 to 1918 he took part in the First World War as a soldier . From 1919 to 1921 he worked as a master tailor in Pößneck.

Bochert joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1910 and was an SPD functionary before the First World War. In 1917, in protest against the truce policy , he joined the Independent Social Democrats (USPD), for which he was a member of the state parliament of the Free State of Saxony-Meiningen from 1919 to 1920 .

After the formation of the state of Thuringia , Bochert switched to the United Communist Party of Germany (VKPD) in December 1920 and became a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) a year later. He was chairman of the KPD Pößneck from 1921 and from 1921 to 1923 a member of the KPD central committee. In 1921 he was elected to the district council of the district of Saalfeld and since 1924 he was an alderman of the city of Pößneck. From 1928 to 1930 he was mayor of the Katzhütte community . He was also a member of the Thuringian state parliament from 1921 to 1927 . He was arrested in August 1944 and imprisoned in Buchenwald concentration camp until April 1945 .

After the Second World War , Bochert returned to politics, rejoined the communists and served as mayor of the city of Pößneck from 1945 to 1949. In the course of the forced unification of the KPD and SPD , he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in 1946. From 1947 to 1949 Bochert was a member of the Thuringian state parliament and from 1948 to 1950 district administrator of the Saalfeld district . As a party veteran, he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver in 1959 .
