Alfred Borchert

Friedrich Julius Alfred Borchert (born December 9, 1886 in Berlin ; † May 6, 1976 in East Berlin ) was a German veterinarian and parasitologist .

Borchert passed his Abitur in 1908 and studied veterinary medicine in Berlin, where he was approved in 1913 and received his doctorate in 1914 . As a research assistant he worked in the Biological Reichsanstalt in Berlin-Dahlem from 1914 and after his habilitation in 1922 taught parasitology at the Berlin Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität , specializing in bee diseases. He had been a member of the government since 1925 and an associate professor since 1936 . From 1938 he taught as a full professor at the Veterinary Faculty.

In 1944 he was drafted as a staff veterinarian at the Munster-Nord Army Research Center . Because of his membership in a Masonic lodge , he did not become a member of the NSDAP and was considered politically unencumbered after 1945. In 1947 he was appointed director of the Institute for Apiculture and Bee Diseases of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Berlin. His textbook became a standard work.

The German Democratic Republic honored him in 1966 as an outstanding scientist of the people . His nickname was "Bienenborchert".
