Getenesh Urge

Getenesh Urge ( Amharic ጌጤነሽ ኡርጌ ; born August 30, 1970 ) is a former Ethiopian long-distance and cross-country runner .

In 1988 she took part in the Athletics World Championships for Juniors in Greater Sudbury in the 3000-meter run, but was eliminated in the run-up as eighth with 9:48:20 min.

In 1991 she won a bronze medal at the Africa Games in the 1500 meter run with 4:12:38 min.

At the World Athletics Championships in 1993 in Stuttgart , she was eliminated in the 3000 meter run with 9:16:24 min. In 1999 she ran the 5000 meters at the World Cup in Seville . With 15: 29.60 min she finished 13th. She won one bronze medal each at the African Athletics Championships ( 1988 and 1993 ) in the 1,500-meter run. There was also a bronze medal in the 3000 meter run at the African Athletics Championships in Mauritius in 1992

In 1996 she became world champion in the marathon relay at the IAAF World Road Relay Championships in Copenhagen in 2:16:04 h.

She also won five silver medals ( 1990 , 1994 , 1996 , 1998 and 2000 ) and one bronze medal ( 1992 ) in the team classification at the World Cross Country Championships.
