Alfred Clarence Redfield

Alfred Clarence Redfield (born November 15, 1890 in Philadelphia , † March 17, 1983 in Woods Hole (Massachusetts) ) was an American oceanographer .

Redfield discovered the Redfield ratio , named after him , which determines the proportions of the atomic composition of marine phytoplankton . James Lovelock used the research results of Redfield to formulate the Gaia hypothesis .
