Alfred Herrhausen Society
The non-profit Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft mbH (AHG) is part of Deutsche Bank . The name of the company founded in Berlin in 1992 reminds you of the spokesman for the Management Board of Deutsche Bank, Alfred Herrhausen , who was killed in an attack in 1989. It is an expression of Deutsche Bank's commitment to civil society.
In terms of content, the work of the Alfred Herrhausen Society focuses on the three programs “ City ”, “Europe” and “Free Thinking”.
The "City" program is characterized by a longstanding collaboration with LSE Cities, an international research center for urban development at the London School of Economics and Political Science . AHG and LSE Cities have been jointly designing the Urban Age Program with numerous activities and events since 2005. The "New Urban Progress" project also started in spring 2020. In collaboration with the Progressive Center and the American Progressive Policy Institute , "New Urban Progress" aims to revitalize transatlantic cooperation and investigates cities on both sides of the Atlantic. The results should contribute to the design of inclusive, innovative, digital and diverse cities.
The "Europe" program has been campaigning for the continued existence of a peaceful, democratic and united Europe that serves as a model for a liberal world order since 2017. The “Thinking of Germany” conference series is also part of the “Europe” program. These conferences have been held annually since 2009. With impulses and conversations with prominent guests from politics, business and society, they take up current topics and deepen them in an interdisciplinary discourse, for example “The world out of joint. In search of new certainties ”(2015),“ Did we make it? Germany in the year 2025 ”(2016) and“ What do we actually believe who we are? German self-confidence in a turbulent Europe ”(2019). Guests at the “Think of Germany” conferences have included Chancellor Angela Merkel , Federal Minister Ursula von der Leyen , CDU chairwoman Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer , Gregor Gysi (Die Linke), and SPD politicians Martin Schulz and Olaf Scholz .
The program "Free Thinking" is dedicated to other important events of the time, also beyond the thematically focused fields of work. The first project "was in 2019 in this program further. Think. Organize. Create" implemented. The project transfers Alfred Herrhausen's visionary ideas into the present and is intended to show ways in which the future of our society can be shaped on the basis of these values and convictions. There are statesmen like Mikhail Gorbatschow , scientists like Thomas Straubhaar , international publicists like Parag Khanna , historians like Heinrich August Winkler , political advisors like Henrik Enderlein , artists like Roman Lipski and, with Arno Brandlhuber, also an architect. " Go on. Think. Organize. Create" is intended to contribute to the goal of the Alfred Herrhausen Society, to actively shape and promote a free and open society and its cohesion. In 2020, the Alfred Herrhausen Society responded to the corona pandemic with the project # WeiterDenken2020. Participants in the project " Next . Think. Organize. Design" look at their contributions from the previous year, comment on the current day and give concrete recommendations for action.
The aim of the Alfred Herrhausen Society is to promote the exchange of ideas and the discussion of important issues of the time. It has a network of partner institutions from all over the world.
