Alfred Klemm (born November 8, 1840 in Ellwangen , † March 27, 1897 in Backnang ) was an Evangelical Lutheran pastor and local history researcher in Württemberg .

Life

Klemm was born in 1840 as the youngest son of the senior magistrate in Ellwangen . He grew up in Esslingen , where his father was transferred in 1845. After completing his theology studies, he made a long trip to northern Germany in 1865. He then worked as a repetitionist in the monastery in Tübingen until he was employed as a deacon in Vaihingen in 1869 . During the renovation work on St. Peter's Church in Vaihingen, he discovered many grave monuments that aroused his interest in epigraphy and research into stone carving . This interest resulted in a publication in 1875 on the Württemberg master builders up to 1600, and a more comprehensive treatise on this topic appeared in the Württemberg quarterly books for regional history in 1882 .

Klemm also continued his research on architecture and church history in other places of his work. From 1876 to 1887 he was assistant pastor and district school inspector in Geislingen an der Steige , then dean in the Sulz dean's office . From 1892 until his untimely death he worked as dean in Backnang .
