history

Alfred Landecker (1884–1942) was a German- Jewish accountant . His wife († 1933) was a Catholic. The couple had three children whom Landecker had catholic baptized after the Nazis came to power in 1933. Landecker was deported to a Polish ghetto in 1942 , where he died shortly afterwards.

Landecker's daughter Emilie (1922–2017) looked after her two siblings after her father's death and worked for the Benckiser company until 1965, which was run by Alfred Reimann senior. and Alfred Reimann jun. was directed. From her long-term relationship with the married Reimann jun. were three children. It is unclear whether Reimann was aware of Emilie's Jewish ancestry. Since Reimann's marriage remained childless, he adopted his children from his relationship with Emilie Landecker in 1965.

In 2016, the Reimann family commissioned the historian Paul Erker from the Institute for Contemporary History at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich to research the political past of the family and the Benckiser company between the early 1920s and 1945. In January 2019, as a result of his research, Erker informed the family that Albert Reimann sen. and Albert Reimann jun. Anti-Semites and staunch supporters of Adolf Hitler and National Socialism were and also profited from the war economy. In addition, there was violence and abuse of slave laborers in the company's plants during the Nazi regime .

The Reimann family then decided to set up this foundation. The former “Benckiser Foundation Future” was transferred to the Alfred Landecker Foundation. With the naming she wants to contribute to the preservation of his memory and also to remember the millions of victims of National Socialism.
