Stefanie Schüler-Springorum

Stefanie Schüler-Springorum (* 1962 in Hamburg ) is a German historian and has been the head of the Center for Research on Antisemitism in Berlin since June 2011 .

The daughter of the legal scholar Horst Schüler-Springorum studied Middle and Modern History, Ethnology and Political Science in Göttingen , Barcelona and Puerto Rico . In 1993 she received her doctorate in Bochum with the thesis on the Jewish minority in Königsberg / Prussia from 1871 to 1945 , supervised by Helga Grebing and Hans Mommsen and assessed summa cum laude .

From 1994 to 1995, Schüler-Springorum was a research assistant at the Topography of Terror Foundation in Berlin for the exhibition “Jewish History in Berlin”. Since 1999 she has been a lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin . From 2001 to 2011, as the successor to Monika Richarz, she was Director of the Institute for the History of German Jews in Hamburg and Chair of the Scientific Working Group of the Leo Baeck Institute in the Federal Republic of Germany. She also teaches at the University of Hamburg . In October 2010 she was offered a position at the Center for Research on Antisemitism as the successor to the outgoing director Wolfgang Benz and took up office on June 1, 2011 in Berlin.

Her areas of work are German and German-Jewish history of the 19th and 20th centuries as well as gender history and Spanish history of the 20th century. In 2010 she published an account of the Condor Legion in the Spanish Civil War . In it she wants to show "the history of a closed air force unit in a specific war situation from a cultural and gender-historical perspective" and examine "the world and ideas of officers, i.e. professional military personnel".
