Alfred Mathieu Giard (born August 8, 1846 in Valenciennes , France , † August 8, 1908 in Orsay , France ) was a French biologist at the University of Lille I and École centrale de Lille .

In 1900 he became a member of the Académie des sciences . In 1901 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg . After him, Vilém Dušan Lambl is Giardia lamblia , the causative agent of giardiasis named. He is also the sole namesake for Giard Point , a headland on Anvers Island in Antarctica.
