The École Centrale de Lille (Centrale Lille or EC-Lille) is a French engineering school in Villeneuve-d'Ascq , on the campus of the University of Lille I ( Université Lille Nord de France ).
She is a member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles and the Gruppe Centrale , a group of general science-oriented elite universities for engineers. With a multidisciplinary curriculum, it trains engineers at a high level within three years, who then mainly work in business. The aim of the training is the so-called 'Ingénieur Centralien' engineering diploma, which corresponds to a master's degree .
admission
The future engineers are selected as part of a selection test, the so-called concours , which take place after two years of preparation in the classes préparatoires . The majority of the students complete the concours Centrale-Supélec , a jointly organized selection process for all écoles centrales and the Supélec . This selection process consists of a week of written exams in April followed by a week of oral exams in July. The content of the exams is tailored to the respective filières , i.e. the courses of study of the students in the classes préparatoires . The usual ones are MP ( Mathématiques-Physique ), PC ( Physique-Chimie ), PSI ( Physique-Sciences de l'Ingénieur ), TSI ( Technologie-Sciences de l'Ingénieur ). However, it is also possible to apply with a scientific license (university degree); there is a special test for this.
In general, only the best of this concours have the chance to be accepted at one of the écoles centrales . On average, almost 3,000 students register for this entrance examination (out of around 22,000 second-year students in a classe préparatoire , the year in which the exams are taken). Only 472-1183 (the number varies depending on the higher education institution in the écoles centrales group , 707 for Centrale Lille) were admitted to the oral exams in 2014. The last student taken was in Centrale Lille on rank 628.
education
General engineering studies begin in the third year of study. It usually lasts three years and is structured as follows:
- three semesters of common compulsory subjects, the so-called Tronc commun (mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, mechanics, economics, business management, project management ...) (semesters 5, 6, 7)
- one semester of elective and supplementary subjects , the Cours électifs , sometimes replaced by a semester abroad (semester 8)
- one year specialization (semester 9, 10)
- a stage de fin d'étude (final internship) at the end of the course
- Instead of the last academic year (semester 9, 10 and final internship ), you can also choose a double degree program abroad, in which a complete Master of Science degree (including a master’s thesis) is completed at a partner university.
- After the 8th semester, a so-called 'Césure' can be taken. This one-year study break is used to complete internships or to work on personal, entrepreneurial projects.

campus
The École Centrale de Lille is located in the middle of the so-called Cité Scientifique on Campus Lille I (campus of the ' Université des Sciences et Technologies de Lille (USTL) in Villeneuve-d'Ascq with around 20,000 students). With the metro line 1 you can get off at the station 'Quatre Cantons', 50 meters from the École Centrale de Lille. Most of the students live in the Résidence Leonard de Vinci, a dormitory that can accommodate 600 residents and is about 10 minutes' walk from the École Centrale.
