Alfred Sällik

Alfred Johannes Sällik (born June 24, 1890 in Jamburg near Saint Petersburg , † September 6, 1943 in Reval ) was an Estonian singer ( tenor ), director and actor.

In 1895 the family moved from Jamburg to Narva . After completing school he initially worked for a bank in Narva, before working as a theater actor in Reval from May 1910. He was particularly successful as a well-known opera singer. He worked as an actor in the oldest surviving Estonian film Laenatud naene , which appeared in 1913 . In 1913 he married the singer Grete Sällik . The daughters Dolly (1915) and Ingrid (1920) emerged from the marriage. From 1917 to 1924 he lived at Raderstraße 18 (Estonian Rataskaevu 18) in Reval. However, alcohol problems also resulted in voice impairment, so he lost his job in 1928. He left Estonia, but returned on June 4, 1935 without being able to build on his old successes. In 1931 the marriage with Grete had been divorced, in 1935 he married Elisabeth Neuberger. In 1940 he celebrated his thirty-year anniversary on stage, but then withdrew. He lived in a summer house in the Merivälja district of Reval . In 1943 Sällik died of throat cancer . The funeral took place on September 10, 1943.

A memorial plaque was attached to his house at Raderstraße 18.
