Alfred Schultheis

Alfred Schultheis (born February 18, 1936 ), also known by the nickname Freddy , is a former German football player on the position of defender .

career

Schultheis began his football career with SG Nieder-Roden and was signed by Kickers Offenbach in 1955 . He was under contract with the Kickers until 1965 and from 1956 to 1963 he played a total of 172 league appearances (5 goals) in what was then the first-class soccer league south . The tall defender celebrated his greatest success with the Kickers when he entered the final of the German championship in 1959 , which was lost to arch-rivals Eintracht Frankfurt 3: 5 after extra time . In 1957, 1959 and 1960 he belonged to the OFC teams, which were able to earn the runner-up in the southern league. That is why he also played a total of 12 games (1957-1960) in the finals for the German soccer championship. After the era of the first-class Oberliga Süd, the trained fine bag maker also played for Offenbach in the first two rounds of the new Bundesliga substructure in the second -rate regional soccer league south . In the first year, 1963/64, under coach Hans Merkle , he made 30 league appearances (1 goal), in the second year, 1964/65, under coach Radoslav Momirski , his career ended with five more regional league appearances . Despite well-known teammates such as Hermann Nuber , Siegfried Gast and Sigfried Held , Offenbach had to be content with third place in both rounds.

Schultheis still lives in the immediate vicinity of the Sparda Bank Hessen Stadium , which he still visits almost regularly at home games of his favorite club, Kickers Offenbach.
