Alfredo A. Roggiano

Alfredo A. Roggiano (* 1919 in Chivilcoy ; † October 27, 1991 in Pittsburgh ) was an American poet, Romance writer and Hispanist of Argentinian origin.

life and work

Roggiano received his PhD from the Universidad de Buenos Aires in 1945 . After a research stay in Madrid, he taught at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán . In 1955 he went to the United States and became director of the International Institute of Iberoamerican Literature / Instituto Internacional de Literatura Iberoamericana, as well as editor of the Revista Iberoamericana . From 1963 to 1984 he taught as a professor of Spanish at the University of Pittsburgh , where he established the Revista Iberoamericana , which he supervised until his death. He died as a Distinguished Professor Emeritus.

Roggiano was an Honorary Doctor of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (1988). At the University of Pittsburgh, an award and foundation bear his name.
