Alfredo Lepro

Alfredo Lepro (* 1903 in Trinidad ; † July 14, 1986 in Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan politician , diplomat and journalist.

Alfredo Lepro began his political career in Rivera in northern Uruguay . There he headed the La Palabra newspaper . He also distinguished himself as a book author and worked in this context on, among other things, the historical background of General Fructuoso Rivera .

Lepro, who belonged to the Partido Colorado , sat in the 35th legislative period as a representative of the Montevideo department from December 2, 1947 to January 2, 1948, initially as a deputy member of the Cámara de Representantes . In the 36th, 37th and 38th legislative periods he held a titular mandate for the Sublema Batllismo -14 for Montevideo from February 15, 1951 to February 23, 1959 . During the legislative period he then moved from February 24, 1959 to the Cámara de Senadores . In the Senate he also held a seat as deputy senator in the 39th legislative period with various interruptions. In the 40th legislative period he then held a titular mandate until his resignation on February 3, 1970. This phase of membership in the Senate also shows interruptions. From December 19, 1968 to June 6, 1969, Lepro took over the management of the Uruguayan Ministry of the Interior. From February 17, 1970 he was the Uruguayan ambassador to Colombia . He held this office until March 9, 1971. From June 27, 1972 to June 30, 1973 he was then ambassador to Portugal . He was also the representative of Uruguay at the United Nations . He later retired from politics for health reasons.
