Ali Pasha Gucia

Ali Pasha Gucia ( Albanian  Ali pashe Gucia , Montenegrin Ali-Paša Gusinjski , Bosnian Ali Paša Šabanagić , Serbian - Cyrillic Али-паша Гусињски * 1828 in Guci (now Gusinje ) in the Ottoman Empire (now Montenegro ); †  5. March 1888 in Peja ), actually Ali "Hasan" Shabanagaj , was an Albanian military leader and one of the leading figures in the League of Prizren . He was the leader of the Albanian troops in the Battle of Nokšić .

Life

Ali Pasha was born to Hasan Shabanagaj in the village of Guci in 1828. He graduated from the military school in Istanbul . Ali Pascha was a member of the League of Prizren and fought against the Montenegrin troops to prevent Montenegro from gaining sovereignty over the predominantly Albanian areas around Plav  and Gusinje, which they had been promised in the Berlin Congress .

Turkish troops subsequently captured him. Thanks to a general amnesty, he was released and became Mütesarrıf (governor of a sanjak ) of Peja . In 1887 Adem Guska committed an assassination attempt on him in the Rugova Gorge , but survived it wounded. According to the consular reports, Haxhi Zeka was the mastermind. On March 5, 1888, he succumbed to his wounds.

Descendants

The descendants of Ali Pascha Gucia are now linguistically assimilated and call themselves Šabanagič (in Albanian  Shabanagaj ).
