Alice Meyer-Wegenstein (born January 9, 1901 in Zurich ; † October 12, 1970 there) was a Swiss lawyer and author .

Alice Wegenstein studied law at the Universities of Geneva , Berlin , Heidelberg and Zurich , where she received her doctorate in 1926 with the dissertation "Co-guarantee". In 1924 she married the historian Karl Meyer . Their daughter was the nuclear physicist and first rector of the University of Zurich Verena Meyer .

Meyer was interested in history and contemporary history, put herself and her husband in the service of the spiritual national defense and was involved in the resistance against the Nazis during the Second World War .

Meyer became known with her book Adjustment or Resistance - Switzerland at the Time of German National Socialism , which was published in 1965 by Huber Verlag. In this book she processed personal knowledge of the environment of her husband Karl Meyer. She got to know numerous emigrants and contemporary witnesses and was able to speak personally to politicians and members of the German resistance who frequented Karl Meyer and his friend Karl Barth . Its sources are the papers left behind by Karl Meyer, archives from Hans Hausamann on the intelligence service and the maintenance of the spirit of resistance and official material from that time.

The history of the founding of the Action National Resistance in 1940 is as detailed as the actual movement. It was deliberately not intended to become a comprehensive history of the “resistance” against “adjustment”, in which historians were just as prominently represented as in the resistance.

The work, which has become a classic, was reissued by Huber Verlag in 2010.
