Alison Rayner

Alison Rayner (* 7. September 1952 in Bromley , then Kent ) is an English bassist (double bass, bass guitar) of the fusion - jazz .

She first played bass guitar in rock and turned to jazz in the 1970s. In the 1980s she toured with the fusion-jazz, Latin-influenced band Guest Stars . From 1990 she played double bass and founded her own jazz quartet, but in addition to jazz she also plays soul , funk and fusion with various world music styles (Afro-Cuban, from the Balkans and from Greece). She worked with Jayne Cortez and with Tal Farlow .

In the 2000s she played among others with Deirdre Cartwright Group (established in 1992 a quintet), the Chris Hodgkins Trio and the Vortex Foundation Big Band of Annie Whitehead and with private Quartet The Jazz Garden . With guitarist Deirdre Cartwright (with whom she already played for the Guest Stars) she has the Blow the Fuse Club in London , named after a band they had together from the late 1980s and 1990s. She composes - her compositions have also been performed by the Guest Stars - and teaches in London and at summer clinics.
