By the summer of 1945, the number of employees rose to 17, only one of whom had completed higher education. Over the years production has increased, technology has been modernized, the product range expanded and the level of qualification of the employees improved. In 1949 the 53 workers produced 2135 kilograms of alkaloids . Income rose by a third compared to 1947. For its positive results, Alkaloid received a nationwide award as the best factory in Yugoslavia .

In 1957 a new plant was opened, which for the first time produced drugs in tablet form. The number of employees increased continuously and among them there were more qualified chemists, pharmacists and technologists. Alkaloid also expanded its collaboration with large pharmaceutical companies in France , Germany , Switzerland, Austria and the United States.

In May 1966 the company "Bilka" from Skopje joined the company, which specialized in the purchase of medicinal herbs. Between 1969 and 1971, the company made great profits, which was reflected in the increase in the number of employees: first 515 employees, then 671. In 1972 a new factory was opened, which could accelerate the production of medicines. At the same time, the production of veterinary preparations began.

In 1973 Alkaloid bought the two companies “Lafoma” and “Cvetan Dimov” and thus expanded its product range to include paints , photo materials, soaps and cosmetics. In 1978 the company "Proleter" was added, which manufactured paints and other coatings. The rapid development positioned Alkaloid among the five largest pharmaceutical companies in Yugoslavia. At that time it had over 2,800 employees.

In 1990, Alkaloid was transformed from state ownership into a joint-stock company with mixed ownership. In 1995 the company was privatized. In 1998 all owners became private.
