All Saints, Kirkbymoorside
The All Saints' Church, Kirkbymoorside is an Anglo-Saxon church in Kirkbymoorside in the county of North Yorkshire in the region of Yorkshire and the Humber in England . It was built from 1250 in place of a previous building. The church is one of the Most Important Buildings with Grade I status on the UK Official List of Monuments .
location
The Anglican Church is on the northern edge of the town of Kirkbymooreside in North Yorkshire , England , at the entrance to the North York Moors . In Kirkbymooreside there is still a Methodist, a Roman Catholic and a Baptist Church.
Building history
The current church was built from 1250. The choir was renewed in the 19th century. The southern porch was built around 1400. Upstairs is a room that may have been intended for a guest priest. This is accessed via a staircase inside the church.
inner space
The church has three aisles. The pillars between the main and side aisles are alternately round and octagonal. Slightly pointed arches arch above it. The church is plastered white. The choir was rebuilt in 1874. A Norman window and the niche dated around 1350 were taken from the previous building. The wooden ceilings are painted dark brown in the nave and blue in the choir . The pews date from the 19th century. The wrought iron fittings are also noteworthy: the candlesticks, the grille of the vestibule and the flower stands. There is an octagonal font in the entrance area. In the Ladies Chapel in the left aisle there is a dark brown and black carved altar from the 19th century.
The church houses a series of stained glass windows . Noteworthy is a window in the right aisle with a picture of the church in the 18th century. A window in Lady Chapel shows the pharmacist Wrothwell with a picture of his pharmacy.
tower
The square tower is attached to the nave in the west. It has points at all four corners and a railing in between. A carillon with six bells hangs in the tower. a. is played before the services.
