All your base are belong to us (AYBABTU, English ), literally translated: All your base are ours or your whole base are ours, is a quote from the opening sequence of the computer game Zero Wing and stands for an internet phenomenon the years 2001 and 2002.
history
The game Zero Wing , a horizontally scrolling space shoot-'em-up that was released in 1989 for arcade machines and Sega Mega Drive , remained insignificant in itself. However, the translation of the opening text from Japanese into English for the Western market was so bumpy that it caused quite a stir in the English-speaking world. The saying first came to fame in the years 1999 to 2001. Many of the involuntarily comical sentences in this sequence were adopted as memes by the Internet community, especially in the computer game scene .
The basis for this hype was created by a member of the TribalWar forum, Bad_CRC, who opened an “ All your base are belong to us ” thread on December 16, 2000 and created the first photomontages. In the more or less well-known pictures the saying “ All your base are belong to us ” was incorporated in some form . The song Invasion of the Gabber Robots by the group The Laziest Men on Mars serves as background music . This video begins with a shortened version of the Zero Wing intro, in which the spoken text was intoned with the help of the computer voice Microsoft Sam .
This Flash video brought the quote to a wider audience beyond the boundaries of the video game forums. Hidden allusions to “All your base” soon followed on well-known websites. The phrase went from being an inside joke among video gamers and geeks to a mass phenomenon that was also reported by media such as Time Magazine and Wired .
Some game developers built “ All your base are belong to us ” as a cheat in their real-time strategy games , for example in Empire Earth and Warcraft III . A well-known example in 2009 was a music video for the strategy game Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 , in which former Star Trek actor George Takei recited this sentence.
On September 5, 2009, Google used a Google doodle on which a UFO apparently tried to transfer the second "O" in the lettering with a transport beam on board. Clicking on the doodle showed search results with the name Puzzling Phenomenon . A little later, the numbers "1.12.12 25.15.21.18 15 1.18.5 2.5.12.15.14.7 20.15 21.19" was created by Google's account tweeted that translates ( , , ...) " All your O are belong to us " ( "All your O are ours ”) means. Google also took up the internet cult.
The OpenVMS operating system contains an undocumented return value which is translated as "% SYSTEM-F-GAMEOVER, all your base are belong to us".
In the Futurama episode “Stories of Interest II” an alien says the sentence.
In the 10th episode of Real Humans , season 1, the Hubot Bea enters the acronym "AYBABTU" as a password into a computer during the break-in in the Swedish secret service .
Elon Musk used the phrase "All Our Patent Are Belong To You" when he announced the release of his Tesla Motors patents .
In the Google Play Games app , after entering the Konami code, the message "Success unlocked - All your game are belong to us" was displayed.
