Life

Djioeva graduated from school number 5 in Tskhinvali in 1966. Even before graduation, she worked at Yugoossetplodowoschtsch (South Ossetian fruit and vegetable processing company). From 2002 to 2008 she was Minister of Education of the Republic of South Ossetia, which was split off from Georgia and is not recognized internationally. She was dismissed from office after criminal proceedings were opened against her. This was followed by a two-year and two-month suspended sentence and a fine of 120,000 rubles . The indictment and verdict are said to have been politically motivated.

In 2011, she ran in the presidential elections and, according to data published by the Electoral Commission, won the second ballot clearly against the Russian- backed candidate Anatoly Bibilov . Their victory against the will of those in power in South Ossetia and Russia was seen as a surprise.
