General theories of crime
General theories of crime claim, within the group of theories of crime, to explain the phenomenon of crime as a whole. In contrast, special explanations, the only age-specific or offense-specific delinquency have for their object of study, such as youth crime , property crimes , economic crimes or sexual delinquency .
The best known of the general theories of crime is A General Theory of Crime by Travis Hirschi and Michael R. Gottfredson . Robert Agnew with his General Theory of Crime and Delinquency and Charles R. Tittle with the Control Balance Theory also submitted comprehensive criminality declarations. The Australian criminologist John Braithwaite also developed a general theory of crime with his concept of reintegrative shaming , as did the Swedish criminologist Per-Olof H. Wikström with the Situational Action Theory .
In the German-speaking area, the theory of crime by Henner Hess and Sebastian Scheerer can be counted among these scientific genres , as can the so-called voluntaristic crime theory by Dieter Hermann .
