action

Spanky, chairman of the He-Man-Women-haters Club, and alfalfa are best friends. Together with the other 5- to 9-year-old club members, they meet regularly in their clubhouse until Alfalfa falls in love with the lovely Darla, who believes that a relationship and Alfalfa's club membership cannot be reconciled.

To prove his sincere love for her, he secretly invites her to the clubhouse to spend a romantic candlelight dinner with her. Since he feels betrayed by his friend, Spanky sabotages the date along with the other members. So it happens that the clubhouse burns down, Darla is disappointed and angry with alfalfa and marches off with the rich and charming Waldo. Alfalfa has to endure a harsh punishment: He is no longer allowed to see Darla, no longer think about her and is, day and night, guarding the "Blur", a soap box of the club, with which the victory of the traditional soap box race has been won several times in a row. Spanky and his friends are now looking after a new clubhouse. Unfortunately, they don't have enough money for enough lumber and they are also not creditworthy.

At the same time, Alfalfa writes a love letter to Darla, but pretends to his friends that it is a hate letter with the following content: "Dear Darla, I hate your stinking entrails, I think you suck. You're the dirt between my toes Greetings Alfalfa. ”In reality, however, he writes:“ Dear Darla, I cannot live without you ... really ... I'm not joking. Your Romeo Alfalfa. ”Two friends deliver the letter, but unfortunately it is used as a handkerchief, so that they read the contents orally. Outraged by the supposed message of hate, Darla crushes a can. Spanky gets alfalfa to talk to Darla and close with her for good. However, Darla immediately has a ballet performance and they have to wait. Butch and Woim, two thugs and their biggest soapbox race competitors, track them down and chase them until Spanky and alfalfa, disguised as ballet dancers, run away. Her way leads her into the girls' changing room, where alfalfa comes into possession of Darla's handkerchief. They are also forced to take part in the performance, which ends in a great comedy. On the run from Butch and Woim again, Alfalfa runs through the city in underwear, which he also loses in the end, and also meets Darla, who is delighted to see him.

At a fair, the He-Man misogynists try to raise money for the new clubhouse, which they only succeed when they collect money for an actually free event. When this is revealed, and it is now questionable what should happen with all the money, Spanky suggests using the money as a prize for the soapbox race. Meanwhile, the "Blur" is stolen from Butch and Woim because Alfalfa is too busy to prove his love to Darla by singing. However, Waldo mixed him washing up liquid in his water glass beforehand so that bubbles gush out of Alfalfa's mouth along with the singing. Darla feels embarrassed. On top of all this, Spanky Alfalfa announces the friendship because he has neglected his duty to win back Darla and thereby the "blur" was lost. The dispute didn't last long, however, and when they were reconciled, the He-Man women haters decided to stick together and build a new soap box, the "Blur 2", with which they could win the $ 500 prize.

The favorites in the race are the teams Alfalfa with Spanky, Waldo with Darla and Butch with Woim. Alfalfa attaches her handkerchief to the "Blur 2" as a lucky charm in Darla's presence, which she is very enthusiastic about. Initially, it doesn't look good for Team Spanky to win as Team Waldo and Team Butch use unfair means to fight. Darla doesn't agree with this and continues the race without Waldo. Ultimately, various circumstances make it possible for the He-Man misogynists to win and Butch and Woim end up in the mud.

Spanky admits to Darla that he was responsible for the pranks on her date with alfalfa. From then on, women are also welcome in the “He-Man-Weiberhasser” club and alfalfa and Darla can finally find each other again.

Trivia

criticism

“The plot, which has been painstakingly stretched to the length of a feature film, never gets going due to the lack of staging speed and the unimaginative script. Since the film cannot decide on any target group, it falls between all stools. The German synchronization also destroys the atmospheric mood of the film. "
