Darla Hood

Darla Jean Hood (born November 8, 1931 in Leedey , Oklahoma , † June 13, 1979 in Hollywood , California ) was an American film actress and voice actress .

Life

Darla Hood, the daughter of a banker and a housewife, attended drama, dance and singing school at an early age. In 1935, at the age of four, she was discovered in a hotel in New York's Times Square by a talent scout from Hal Roach , who signed her. The seven-year contract guaranteed her an income of $ 75 a week. In the role as Darla in Die kleine Strolche , she gained fame as a black-haired leading lady . She also had an appearance in the Laurel-and-Hardy film Das Mädel aus dem Böhmerwald as the adopted daughter of the comedian duo.

In 1941 Hood left after 51 films The Little Rascals because of her age. Then she got fewer role offers and tried it as a voice actress in some cartoons . In 1959 she was offered the last role in The Beast , a thriller starring Vincent Price , as the lead actor. After that, she appeared in commercials and film and television productions.

Hood was married twice. Her first marriage to insurance agent Robert W. Decker lasted two years, from 1955 to 1957. She had three children with her second husband, José Granson, the director of a recording studio, whom she married in 1957.

Hood died at the age of 47 of heart failure from hepatitis , which she contracted from a blood transfusion as part of an appendectomy .
