Susanne Karstedt

Susanne Karstedt (* 1949 in Lübeck ) is a German sociologist and criminologist who teaches as a professor at Griffith University in Brisbane , Australia .

Career

Karstedt completed a degree in sociology, psychology and criminology at the University of Hamburg from 1967 to 1973 , from which she graduated as a sociologist. She then worked in the training of social workers and lawyers and gave courses in criminology and social sciences at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court . From 1975 she worked in the research department of the personnel department of Deutsche Lufthansa in Cologne. From 1977 to 1990 she was a research assistant at the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University . There she received her doctorate in 1981 with a paper on the drunkenness in road traffic . From 1990 she worked as a lecturer at the Universities of Hamburg and Bielefeld and as a consultant for crime prevention . In 2000 Karstedt went to Keele University as a professor . Since 2009 she has been a professor at the University of Leeds . She now teaches at Griffith University in Brisbane.

Her work focuses on comparative criminology, everyday and middle-class crime, the Nuremberg Trials and German post-war society, as well as studies on genocide .
