The Allotria was a variety show on Hamburg's Reeperbahn from 1936 to 1958 .

Prehistory of the Allotria - the Alkazar

In 1926 Arthur Wittkowski opened a variety theater called "Alkazar" in the house of the former Hansa beer halls. He had it equipped with state-of-the-art technology for the time. A lifting platform in the middle of the hall could be lowered within a few minutes and reappear as an ice rink, dance floor or water basin. A chandelier with water fountains could be lowered from the ceiling for various show purposes. International stars of the twenties such as Josephine Baker and Anita Berber performed here.

After the seizure of the Nazis in 1933 Wittkowski was replaced with intrigue, slander and harassment from his own company after falling out with the NSDAP had fallen out. In 1935, the Alkazar was foreclosed . Georg Leopold, a member of the NSDAP, was named the new director, in Nazi jargon "Operations Manager".

History of the allotria

The former name "Alkazar" was changed in 1936 by the National Socialists to "Allotria" because, from their point of view, the name "Alkazar" was not justified for a place of entertainment due to the "heroic struggle of national Spain". The fascists suffered a serious defeat when the Alcazar of Toledo , which was occupied by the fascist regime of General Franco , was stormed by the Republicans.

The eponymous film Allotria with Heinz Rühmann , which also premiered in 1936, is believed to be the eponym .

Since the building survived the Second World War and the bombing of the Allies almost unscathed, operations could continue during the war. Even if the program was a little more moderate than before 1933, there were still nude performances and bands playing the legendary swing .

Today there is a penny market on the ground floor of the building , where the 2007 Spiegel TV report “ The penny market on the Reeperbahn ” was filmed.
