Alluaudia procera grows as a tree-shaped, 6 to 10 meter, sometimes up to 15 meter high shrub with a narrow crown of vertical shoots. On the shoots there are many conical and silver-colored thorns in wavy to spiral rows , which are 10 to 25 millimeters long. The ovoid to obovate leaves initially appear individually below the thorns and are 7 to 25 millimeters long and 4 to 12 millimeters wide. The number of chromosomes is 2n = 240 or about 256.
