The Almus dam ( Turkish Almus Barajı ) is located 30 km east of Tokat in the Turkish province of Tokat on the upper reaches of the Yeşilırmak .
The Almus dam was built in the years 1958–1966 as an earthfill dam . It is operated by the state water authority DSİ and is used for energy generation , flow regulation and irrigation . The dam is 78 m high and has a volume of 3.405 million m³. The associated 20 km long reservoir has a water surface of 31.3 km² and a storage volume of 950 million m³. The district town of Almus is located on the southern shore of the lake . The dam is used to irrigate an area of 21,350 hectares. The Almus dam's hydropower plant has 3 units of 9 megawatts . The average annual energy production is 99 GWh. Almost 4 km downstream is the smaller Ataköy dam .
