Alois Beham

Alois Beham (* 1916 in Schardenberg ; † 1991 in Wernstein am Inn ) was an Austrian doctor, homeopath, writer, poet, sculptor and painter as well as personal doctor and friend of Alfred Kubin .

Life

Alois Beham was born in Schardenberg in 1916 and studied medicine. After completing his studies, he and his wife Theresia Beham settled in Wernstein am Inn , where he worked as a family doctor until his death in 1991. In 1951 he met Alfred Kubin, who encouraged and strengthened his artistic work.

Services

As a doctor, he was primarily known and valued for his medical treatment methods. As an artist, he was the guild master of the Innviertel artists' guild and founded the Alfred Kubin Gallery, which is continued today by his son, as well as the former local history museum in Wernstein. He was an honorary citizen of the municipality of Wernstein am Inn as well as the holder of the Silver Medal of Honor of the State of Upper Austria for his cultural achievements.

The Alois-Beham-Straße between his birthplace Schardenberg and the center of his life Wernstein am Inn is named after him.

Works

In addition to countless artistic works ranging from oil painting to sculpture, Alois Beham also worked literarily and wrote two volumes of poetry, as well as being editor and author of the homeland book of the municipality of Wernstein.

Since his death, his artistic works have been shown in numerous exhibitions throughout Austria, as well as in Germany and the Czech Republic. Many of his sculptural works can be seen in various churches and chapels in the Innviertel .
