Alphington is a district in the northeast of the Australian metropolis Melbourne . It is located approx. 7 km from the city center. Alphington borders the Yarra River to the south and Darebin Creek to the east .

Alphington is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Melbourne. In the area of what is now Alphington, a wooden bridge over Darebin Creek and a hotel were built in the 1840s. In 1858 a post office was opened. In 1864 the bridge was replaced by a stone bridge.
