Alphonse Jeannet

Alphonse Jeannet (born September 17, 1883 in La Chaux-du-Milieu , † September 9, 1962 in Vevey ) was a Swiss geologist and paleontologist .

Life

He studied geology at the University of Lausanne with Maurice Lugeon . In 1912 he submitted his dissertation on the group of Tours d'Aï in the Vaudois Pre-Alps. From 1921 to 1931 he was a professor at the University of Neuchâtel . From 1931 to 1953 he was appointed associate professor and curator of the geological collection at ETH Zurich . He researched and dealt with biostratigraphy and paleontology of invertebrates, especially the Mesozoic of the Swiss Jura and the French Jura . He was a specialist in fossil sea ​​urchins . One of his students was René Hantke .
