Alphonse Thys
Alphonse Thys (born March 8, 1807 in Paris , † August 1879 in Bois-Guillaume ) was a French composer.
Live and act
From 1825 Thys studied harmony with Émile Bienaimé and composition with Henri Montan Berton at the Paris Conservatory . In 1833 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome with the cantata Le Contrebandier espagnol . After a two-year stay in the Villa Medici in Rome, he began his career as a composer in Paris with romances for the piano and popular songs such as La Belle Limonadière and La Nuit au sérail .
He later composed a number of great operas, most of which were performed at the Opéra-Comique , a salon opera with piano accompaniment ( Les Echos de Rosine ) and works for mixed and male choirs.
As a music teacher, Thys used the method of Pierre Galin , in 1873 he also wrote the foreword to the book by Sophronyms Loudier for the method Histoire anecdotique de la méthode Galin-Paris-Chevé . His most famous student was the composer Edmond de Polignac . In 1850 Thys was one of the founders of the Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Éditeurs de Musique (SACEM).
Thys' daughter Pauline Thys-Sébault also became known as a composer. It is not clear whether there was also a family relationship with the painter Gaston Thys .
