The Alstom (Switzerland) AG (until 1999 ABB Kraftwerke AG ), based in Baden is on power plant engineering , energy distribution and transmission and rail transport specialized Swiss industrial companies. It has its origin in the former Brown, Boveri & Cie. Power plant division formed at the Baden location at the end of the 19th century, which was converted into an independent subsidiary after the merger of BBC to Asea Brown Boveri . This was sold to the French industrial group Alstom in 1999 as part of a strategic realignment of the ABB Group and today forms the center of Alstom's global power plant business.

As the largest private employer in the canton of Aargau, the company employs around 6,000 people and generated sales of 4.2 billion Swiss francs in 2011/12.

Field of activity

Alstom (Switzerland) comprises the power plant divisions Power Systems and Power Service as well as the business divisions GRID , energy transmission and distribution, and transport .

The Power Systems division specializes in the manufacture of power plant components with a focus on gas- fired combined- cycle power plants , generators and power plant integration. As a technology center for gas turbine technology, the Power Service division focuses on services for gas turbines and combined cycle power plants as well as on the reprocessing of stressed gas turbine components. The Baden location is the global headquarters of Alstom's two power plant divisions. In addition, Switzerland is Alstom 's most important research and development location in the world for power plants. This is where the further development of gas and steam turbines, turbo generators and complex overall systems as well as related services takes place.

The GRID division deals with energy transmission and distribution and is based in Oberentfelden (AG).

The Transport division focuses on engineering and services in the field of rail transport and is based in Neuhausen am Rheinfall (SH). Transport also has a branch in Lausanne (VD).
