It is located on Alt Ottersleben Street in the Magdeburg district of Ottersleben . The street, which runs long in west-east direction through the center of Ottersleben, widens like a square in the area of ​​the house numbers. From the north, Schmiedestrasse joins at the eastern end of the square, from the south at the western end of the street Am Dorfteich.

The historic buildings include Alt Ottersleben 20 , 21 , 22 , 46 and 47 , which are listed as individual monuments . In addition, the base of the Ottersleben war memorial that has been preserved is also part of the memorial ensemble.

Architecture and history

The village square is the only place of its kind that has remained largely untouched by recent structural changes. The development of the square consists of large houses, mostly medium-sized farms from the early 19th century. The houses, which are covered with gable roofs , stand on the eaves of the square and have gate passages typical for the region.

In 1874, the Ottersleben war memorial was erected in the northeast corner of the square, which was largely destroyed in a storm in the 1960s and the base of which is still in place today.

In terms of architecture and settlement history, the square is typical for villages on the Magdeburger Börde in the time of agriculture before the start of industrial development.
