Altaria was a Finnish heavy metal / hard rock band founded in 2000 by Marko Pukkila and Tony Smedjebacka, among others. In 2016 the band gave their last concert.

Band history

Johan Mattjus took over the first vocal parts. Next came guitarist Jani Liimatainen from Sonata Arctica . Until then, the band was more of a project. But a hobby eventually became a full-fledged band. When the first studio session was over, the three-piece demo Sleeping Visions was distributed to the media and radios.

Due to various problems with Johan Mattjus, Jouni Nikula came to the band's aid during two live shows. Since these gigs with the new singer went down pretty well, Altaria made the first line-up change; Nikula was signed as a permanent member of the band. In spring 2002 the band went back to the studio to record eight new songs. Four of them were produced under the name Feed The Fire and offered for download on the Internet. After the new demo was released, all Altaria songs climbed into the top 50 on the MP3.com charts at the same time. In the fall of 2002, Emppu Vuorinen from Nightwish joined the band as the second guitarist. In August 2002 Altaria finally signed a record deal with AOR Heaven and in spring 2003 the debut album Invitation was released .

The next line-up changes took place after the publication of Invitation . Before the invitation tour, singer Jouni Nikula decided to leave the band. Altaria contacted the singer Taage, who immediately agreed. The band performed with him three times in September 2003. Due to his activities with Nightwish, Emppu Vuorinen left the band in January 2004.

The guitarist Petri Aho offered his help for the Finland tour in January 2004; so instead of one guitarist you had two. After the Finland tour, Altaria went to the studio to make recordings for the new album Divinity , which includes two songs by Jani ( Unchain The Rain , Falling Again ). Divinity is rated by the fans as harder than its predecessor and was released in 2004. For the album The Fallen Empire , released in 2006, another line-up change was due. Since Liimatainen's main band Sonata Arctica took up a lot of his time, he could no longer devote enough time to Altaria. But in JP Alanen from Celesty they found a good replacement for him. In December 2006, the third singer, Taage, left the band. In May 2007, Divine Invitation was published .
