The old mill (also called Scheuermann mill ) at Mühlgasse 13 in the Heilbronn district of Biberach was a mill from the second half of the 18th century in the Baroque style , but its origins go back to the Middle Ages . The now collapsed building stood as a cultural monument under monument protection .

location

The mill is located on the northern edge of Biberach on a mill canal that branches off to the left of the Böllinger Bach , the upper canal of which is 357 meters long.

history

The location of the mill outside the town center suggests a late medieval complex. Heinrich Rauch, who received a hereditary lapel in 1516 , was the first mention of a miller in Biberach. With the place in 1681, the Teutonic Order took ownership of the mill. In 1686 it was sold by the local authorities.

From 1837 to about 1870 the mill was owned by Joseph Bühler, who received permission to install a third waterwheel in 1860. At that time the mill had one tanning process and two grinding stages. His successor Jakob Scheuermann installed a third grinding stage in 1870 . Scheuermann had the mill converted into an art mill around 1900 , but was then boycotted by the Biberach farmers and had to return to the hand-filling process. In the course of the renovation, two undershot water wheels were used instead of the previous three overshot water wheels. In 1940 the mill received a cross-flow turbine.

Because of the traditional spelled processing in Biberach until the 1930s, the mill technology was only very cautiously modernized. Even under the last miller, Eduard Scheuermann, two single and one double steel roller mill on a four-part classifier were in use in the 1960s .

The last miller lived in the mill until his death in 2004. The mill building had to be supported for a long time because it was threatened with collapse. In 2007 the roof of the building partially collapsed, in the following years the mill collapsed completely. A neighboring historic farm building withstood the ravages of time for a little longer, but it also collapsed in spring 2015.

description

The core of the building was based on an older structure. The year 1617 was visible on the lintel in the former wheel room. In the 18th century it was expanded to a two-story half-timbered building, which was later plastered. The door with carved scrolls and wrought iron fittings is one of the architectural decorations of the building . The historical interior, such as a double roller mill and two porcelain rollers, were considered to be significant in terms of technology. At the southern corner of the building there was once a historic house Madonna in an ornate shrine.
