The Alte Pforzheimer Hütte is a former alpine club hut located at 2256 m slm in the South Tyrolean part of the Sesvenna group . It is located about 200 meters east of today's Sesvennahütte and has served as a museum since 2015.
history
In 1898 the Pforzheim section of the then DuOeAV decided to build a refuge. The Schlinigtal was chosen as the location from among several candidates . On July 16, 1901, the Pforzheimer Hütte opened. As a result of the cession of South Tyrol to the Kingdom of Italy , enforced by the Treaty of St. Germain , the hut was expropriated and then initially used as a base for Italian border guards and customs officers. In 1964 the building burned down. At the end of the 1970s, the South Tyrol Alpine Association decided to build a new refuge - the Sesvennahütte - in the immediate vicinity, as it was considered unlikely that the old hut would be returned.
In 1998 the Italian state decided to transfer the building along with numerous other properties to the State of South Tyrol. Since then, the Cunfin Association has been committed to the repair and management of the Alte Pforzheimer Hütte, which was listed as a historical monument in 2009 as an "interesting example of alpine metallurgy around 1900". The house was partially renovated and has served as a museum since 2015. On September 20, 2015, the first exhibition "Duty Free Zone !?" was opened on smuggling in the border area.
