The Schlinigtal , also simply called Schlinig or Schliniger Tal ( Italian Val Slingia ), is a side valley of the Vinschgau or upper Adige Valley in the far west of South Tyrol in Italy . It branches off in a westerly direction at Schleis and later leads in a north-westerly direction into the mountains of the Sesvenna group. The entire valley with the Schlinig fraction belongs administratively to the municipality of Mals .

The Schlinigtal is drained by the twelve kilometer long Metzbach (also Schlinigbach ), which flows into the Etsch at Schleis and overcomes a high rock step in the background as a waterfall. The valley has a gorge-like entrance facing west. Behind the upholstered courtyard it turns into a V valley and swings to the northwest. The most important side valley, the Arundatal , branches off in the valley entrance area , which initially strives in a south-westerly direction, but later also swings to the north-west and then runs parallel to the Schlinig valley . The conclusion of the Schlinigtals forms of Schlinigpass at 2309  m slm

In the area of the small, clustered village of Schlinig, the Schlinigtal widens into a U-shape. After a short section as a broad, flat meadow to the Schlinig-Alm, the terrain rises again significantly and ends very abruptly at the Black Wall in the valley background. The Schlinigtal can be reached from Burgeis via a road.

The Schlinigtal is surrounded by mountains of the Sesvennagruppe, which border it in the south to the Münstertal , in the north to Zerz and in the west to the Val S-charl and Val d'Uina in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . The Piz Rasass ( 2941  m ), the Schadler ( 2948  m ) and the Piz Rims ( 3092  m ) are among the most important peaks that rise above the head of the valley and are accessible to mountaineers through the Sesvennahütte .
